This experience takes place at one UNESCO World Heritage Site.
What you'll do
On this walking experience we will learn of the arrival of Jews in Mexico along of the conquistadors, five hundred years ago and the fateful ending of some at the stake.
We will see the 16th century Palace of the Spanish Inquisition and discover its hidden messages which persecuted Jews for 300 years.
Strolling through the Historic Center, we will talk about the anti-Fascist resistance put up by famous Mexicans in the 1930's, including Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, who prided on their Jewish heritage and many of their friends.
We will visit the neighborhood where the second wave of Jewish migration established themselves at the turn of the 20th century, coming mainly from Eastern Europe and the Ottoman Empire.
We will see the oldest synagogues standing next to former Catholic convents which used to spy on non-Roman Catholics.
Amazing history will unravel as we share the advancement of the newcomers from tailors and seamstresses to the developed textile and jewelry industries which led to the establishing of Mexico's modern financial system, developed mainly with Jewish capital.
We will finish with a visit to Lithuanian-inspired Nidje Israel, a historic and one of the oldest synagogues; an example of the Jewish-Mexican cooperation for the renovation and maintenance of Mexico City's Historic Center.
Where you'll be
At three of the main squares within the 16th century city limits, we will discover the Jewish influence in history by walking on the scene, visiting hidden corners & sharing stories seldom told. We will see historical sites, discover the persecution by the Dominican friars of the Inquisition, learn about the three waves of Jewish migration to Mexico, the area they came to settle in, and their first synagogues.

Any experience can be canceled at least 7 days before the experience starts for a refund minus a 20% processing charge. Rescheduling and changes can be made at least 3 days before the experience starts. Refunds are counted from the original date of purchase.

Weather
This experience goes weather rain or shine. In case of rain, our tour will make its best to spend as much time as possible indoors. In case of unforeseen closure of streets or venues, we are always prepared with an equivalent or alternate route.
